Students from ‘Jeugdhuis Jong Bonaire’ take part in company visit and orientation at Customs Caribbean Netherlands
A company visit and orientation recently took place at the Customs office at Bonaire’s seaport. Ten young people from ‘Jeugdhuis Jong Bonaire’, accompanied by two leaders, were given insight into the work of Customs Caribbean Netherlands. They observed demonstrations involving the customs dog and the customs patrol boat, and also had the opportunity to wear bulletproof vests and helmets to experience for themselves what it feels like.
The aim of this visit was to introduce the students to customs procedures and provide them with insight into the practical aspects of customs work. It provided them with an opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn more about the various career opportunities within Customs.
The students, all from the equivalent of 5th and 6th grade (Dutch groups 7 and 8), were actively engaged and asked many questions about the work of Customs, including how customs dogs are used. The handlers present enthusiastically explained that customs dogs can be deployed in various situations and are trained for a range of specific tasks. They also emphasized that handlers must have a genuine passion for working with dogs and must complete special training.
Customs Caribbean Netherlands looks back on a successful and meaningful visit and is proud to support initiatives like this, aimed at passing on knowledge and experience to young people.
